Indians arrested for role in massive fake marriage scam in Saraburi

Immigration police have arrested eight Indian nationals for running a marriage scam that used the names of Thai women in forged marriage licenses in the Isan region.

The men, named as Prabhakar Singh, Ritesh Kumar, Manjeet Mallah, Suraj Prakash Singh, Raju Sharma, Shailesh Kumar Tripathi, Vijendra Nishad and Bhajan Nishad were arrested following complaints lodged by Thai women in Saraburi’s Wang Muang district who found their names on marriage certificates despite never having been married.

The men are believed to have been the masterminds behind a ring that saw 300 Indian men registered as being married to Thai women in the district in conjunction with corrupt local officials.

The arrested were made as part of the nationwide Operation X-Ray Foreigner led by Maj Gen Surachet, known by his nickname of “Big Joke” which is targeting foreigners who are illegally staying within Thailand.
