Nine arrested in Saraphi boxing gambling raid

Nine people have been arrested for their participation in illegal gambling on boxing matches in Saraphi yesterday, Feb. 3.

The raid, which was involved representatives of Chiang Mai Provincial Police, Saraphi Police, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, the Department of Health and the Ministry of Education, occurred at a grocery store in Moo 8 Chai Sathan at around 4 p.m.

The nine men, who are from various parts of northern Thailand, were all charged with breaching the gambling act.

One of the men were also charged with running an illegal betting operation and “smuggling gambling (boxing kiosk) to bet on a property without permission.”

In addition to the arrests, two gambling books, a set of boxing results, a 30 inch TV and 300 baht in cash was also seized.
