North rocked by 4.9 earthquake as daily count hits 15

A 4.9 earthquake recorded at 4:05 p.m. in northern Lampang this afternoon, Feb. 20 has been felt as far away as the metro areas of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.

The quake, like those earlier, was recorded at 19.26 N, 99.61 E –  Wang Nuea District although slightly to the north of some of the earlier quakes.

Reports on social media have many living across Chiang Mai reporting having felt the 4.9 quake. In San Sai, there was a small shake for may two to three seconds.

As of 5:10 p.m. there have now been 15 earthquakes recorded in the north since midday ranging from a base of 2.0 with several in between 3.0 and 4.0.

Update: the first reports of damage are coming in after 5:30 p.m. There is structural and roof damage on buildings in Wang Nuea, no reports of injuries yet.
