In what could be a pickup in seismic activity, another small earthquake has been detected in northern Thailand.
The quake, technically a tremor, came in at 1.6 on the Richter scale and occurred in Mae Lao district, Chiangrai at 9:04 p.m. Sunday.
The report comes after a 3.6 earthquake rattled Chai Prakan District in the northern part of Chiang Mai province June 1.
Multiple minor earthquakes are often a sign of stresses in fault lines that later result in larger earthquakes. The largest earthquake ever recorded in Thailand, 6.1, also in Mae Lao district, struck on May 5, 2014 causing significant damage in Chiang Rai and the death of one person.
