Big drug hauls as smugglers intercepted in Mae Ai and Chiang Saen

Busy 24-hours in the war on drugs with drug smugglers intercepted in both Mae Ai, Chiang Mai and Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai.

In Mae Ai, Chiang Mai Border Patrol Police Region 3 police intercepted drug smugglers while they were cross the Ping River yesterday, Oct.22. The smugglers themselves managed to get away but only while dumping 1 million yaba tablets in the process.

According to the reports, the drugs belonged to the North Wa group and are believed to have entered the country from Myanmar.

In Si Don Mun in Chiang Saen, chase was given after a sedan was noticed turning around on approach to a checkpoint. In what could read as a proforma story given how they’re nearly always the same, police and Royal Thai Army soldiers gave chase, attempting to shoot the tires of the car.

Eventually the vehicle came to a stop with the driver successfully fleeing the scene.

Packed into the back of the sedan were 3,063,00 yaba tablets and 40 kilograms of ice.
