Nan police target illegal activities during the World Cup

Police in Nan, along with 38th Army District military officers have announced a crackdown on illegal crime during the forthcoming football (soccer) World Cup.

The tournament, wildly popular in Thailand as is both local and English Premier League football usually results in an uptick of certain activities as fans tune in to watch games. This year’s tournament, being held in Russia, will see many of the games being held late night Thai Standard Time.

Among the list of offenses being targeted include illegal loans and gambling, both related as often people will borrow money to gamble, drug trafficking, fighting – presumably due to people getting drunk, firearms offenses and public car racing.

Surprisingly drink driving was not included on the list although enforcing helmet laws were.
