Two men arrested in Lamphun for stealing copper wire

Two men, one a Malaysian national, have been arrested in Sattahip, Mae Tha District, Lamphun for stealing copper wire used for the supply of electricity.

The two men, named as Mr. Khamphan Lung, 36 from Malaysia and Mr. Suwatagha, 27 and originally from Chiang Rai, were arrested after villagers in Moo 14 Ban Sop Sabha complained to police that electric cabling to the village water pump had been stolen.

Lung and Suwatagha were caught with 10 kilograms of copper wire, wire cutters and an unregistered motorcycle. The pair confessed to their crimes, saying that they had been stealing the wire to sell to obtain money they could use to buy alcohol. They had already raised 1,600 baht from sales and are believed to have stolen as much as 130 meters of cabling in total.
