One dead, 2.85M yaba tablets seized in latest Chiang Rai shootout

One man has died and 2.85 million yaba tablets seized in the latest shootout between the police, Royal Thai Army officers and drug runners in Chiang Rai province.

Narcotics Suppression Bureau officers and soldiers were maintaining a road block in Chiang Saen when a vehicle approaching the checkpoint quickly turned around and attempted to flee the scene.

A pursuit followed with the vehicle, an Isuzu pickup, then crashing in Moo 7 Nong Pa Ko, Doi Luang sometime thereafter.

The occupants attempted to flee from the vehicle, guns blazing. One man managed to escape while the other, said to be from Kanchanaburi, was shot dead.

Police subsequently found the yaba tablets in the back of the Isuzu.
