One dead after driver falls asleep on Canal Road, Hang Dong

A woman has died after being hit by a pickup truck driver who had fallen asleep behind the wheel on Canal Road in Hang Dong at 6:20 a.m. this morning (July 9).

According to police, a Mr. Suchart Pipipat age, 47 from Mae Hong Son was heading to Chiang Mai for a doctors appointment in his Toyota Hilux when he fell asleep behind the wheel. Having fallen asleep, the Hilux he was driving swerved across the road taking out Mrs. Nan Kyar, 39 who was riding her motorcycle at the time.

Both the Hilux and Mrs. Kyar ended up in the ditch at the side of the road with rescue workers find her body wedged underneath the Hilux. The motorcycle itself was found by the edge of the road, suggesting that Mrs. Kyar was hit at speed and was sent flying by the impact.

Mr. Pipipat was detained by police for further questioning and is facing numerous legal charges.
