One dead as motorcycle rider flung off airport road overpass in Pa Daet

A man has died after crashing in motorcycle into a concrete barrier and then flung off a road overpass in Pa Daet early this morning, Aug. 7.

The accident happened on the Mahiodol Road overpass outside Central Airport at 1:48 a.m.

The deceased, Piyawet Maokham, 20 from Bueng Kan Province in Isan was in Chiang Mai after being drafted into the Royal Thai Army as was traveling to the airport at the time of accident.

It’s believed, being unfamiliar with the area, that Maokham, confused by the division of overpass between Mahidol Road and the road to the airport has picked the wrong lane then in attempting to correct the mistake has hit a concrete barrier instead. Having hit the concrete barrier, Maokham was then flung over the overpass to the ground below, roughly five stories in height.

He was rushed to Maharaj Chiang Mai Hospital where died shortly after arrival.
