One dead as motorcycle runs red light in San Pa Tong

One man has died after he ran into a pickup truck at high speed while ignoring a red light in San Pa Tong early this morning, Aug. 19.

The accident happened at the intersection of Chiang Mai-Hot Road (Highway 108) and rural road 5039 in Moo 10, Tambon Yu Wa at around 3:30 a.m.

The motorcycle rider, with passenger onboard is described in some reports as “racing at the time of the accident.

The deceased man is described as being a 20 year-old male but was not named. The passenger on the bike, Mr. Theerapat Ratwong, also 20 was taken to hospital. The driver of the pickup truck they rode into was not injured.

There apparently is CCTV footage of the accident confirming that the motorcycle ran the red light but it has not been released as of the time of writing.
