Online casino raided, shut down in Mae Sai

A joint operation between the Royal Thai Army, police and local officials saw the raid and closure off an illegal online casino business in Mae Sai, Chiang Rai yesterday, July 24.

The online casino was being operated in Pa Yang, Mae Sai less than 300 meters away from the Mae Sai District Office.

Acting on a tip-off, the raid found three people in the house who were said to be employees running the casino for 400 baht a day. The raid uncovered “many” SIM cards, computers being used to operate the casino and other related materials.

The men were charged with advertising or soliciting directly or indirectly others to bet or play an unauthorized gambling game.

It’s not clear from the reports whether the owner of the business was among the men arrested. The investigation is said to be ongoing.
