Pilot given military honor guard following fatal air force crash

The body of Squadron Leader Krirkkiet Suwanno, a pilot from Wing 41 who died in the trainer crash yesterday, was given a full military honor guard at Chiang Mai Airport prior to being flown to Bangkok.

The accident occurred on a training flight from Chiang Mai Airport to Tak Airport Tuesday afternoon with the aircraft, a L39 ZA/ART two-seater, single-engine jet training plane, crashing on to a golf course near Tak’s Bhumibol Dam at 2:50 p.m.

Both pilots ejected from the craft prior to the crash, with Suwanno dying with co-pilot Group Captain Jirasak Ngamwongsri described as being in a serious condition.

Suwanno is being a seven-day funeral ceremony at Wat Phra Si Mahathat in Bangkok with the initial rites to be led by the Air Commander of the RTF and the head of the Royal Thai Army.
