Over 120 police have been involved in a nationwide crackdown on sites illegally streaming content on the internet.
The raids, led by the Department of Special Investigations, The National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission and other agencies raided 19 locations throughout Thailand yesterday, Dec. 14.
Along with an undisclosed location in Chiang Mai, other raids took place in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Suphan Buri and Lampang.
The operation was in response to a range of websites in Thailand offering illegal streams of copyrighted content including live sports games and movies.
According to reports, the sites included sakkarinsai8.com, Doo4k.tv, Movie2free, bigapp.tv and a number of others websites that were managing to bring in between 70,000-100,000 baht each a month in subscription fees.
In addition, the websites were also said to have been advertising gambling and porn sites, both of which are also illegal in the Kingdom.
It’s not clear how many people were arrested but 20 people are believed to have been involved in running the sites.
