Pope Francis is the latest world figure to send wishes for the safe recovery of the 12 children and football coach currently lost in the Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Mae Sai.
His Holiness addressed the Mae Sai cave 13 during a religious ceremony at St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican Sunday, July 1, saying that he prayed that the youth football team and their coach would be found safe and well.
Along with the 13 lost in the cave, His Holiness also prayed for peace in Nicaragua, Syria and the success of peace talks between Ethiopia and Eritrea.
The cave rescue has entered its ninth day with rescuers reported to be close to reaching the area, dubbed “Pattaya Beach,” the children and coach are believed to be as of 12 p.m. Monday, July 2.
Conditions in the area improved overnight as rain lessened and experts from more countries, including Australia, joined the rescue effort.
