San Kamphaeng woman wins lottery, credits auspicious number from cave rescue

A woman from San Kamphaeng who won 12 million baht in the July 1 Thai lottery draw is crediting her win on an auspicious number obtained from the attempted rescue of 12 children and their football coach in Mae Sai.

Mrs. Ampopporn Kanankakul, 57, said that she took inspiration from those stuck in the Mae Sai cave by picking number 23, June 23 being the date the kids went missing and as the seller had two tickets with the same number she bought both. Each ticket won the major prize draw of 6 million for a total of 12 million baht.

In addition, Mrs. Kanankakul also said that she had spent time at Wat Phra That Doi Kham prior to the draw making merit and asking for blessings both for those stuck in the cave and for a better life for her family.

The tickets themselves were acquired in Lamphun June 27.

Mrs. Kanankakul said that she has invited relatives to celebrate the win and that she would use the winnings to pay off her debts and to make additional merit at Wat Phra That Doi Kham.
