Senior police officer allegedly shoots, kills girlfriend in Pa Tan

A senior policeman is alleged to have shot and killed his girlfriend following a dispute in Pa Tan this morning, Nov. 4.

The shooter is alleged by Thai language media to be Col. Kongsak Kongngern, Chief of Narcotics Control Police at Muaeng Chiang Mai Police Station.

It’s alleged that Col. Kongngern got into an argument with his girlfriend Miss Apasraman Talay, 19 while in a pickup truck on Ban Tho Road, Pa Tan at around 5 a.m. when he shot her in the head.

The Colonel is said to have rushed Miss Talay to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital where she died later from her injuries. He later reported the shooting to Chang Phuaek Police who are said to be investigating.

The argument that led to the alleged shooting is claimed to be related to jealousy.

As of the time of writing (12:40 p.m.) police are yet to make a statement on the allegations. We’ll update the post if and when details come to hand.

Update 4:15 p.m.: Daily News reports that Col. Kongngern has been arrested over the shooting. He’s also claiming that he accidentally shot her in the head.

Update: 5 p.m: Thairath claims he was the chief of narcotics control, an earlier version of the article has been amended.
