Shake, rattle and roll as four earthquakes recorded in Chiang Mai, Lamphun

Seismic activity continued to increase across the north at the weekend with four earthquakes recorded in total staring from Friday night in Chiang Mai and Lamphun.

The first earthquake, a 2.9 of the Richter scale struck at 9:59 p.m. Friday, Aug 23 at 17.564 N 98.233 E – Sop Khong in Omkoi District close to the border with Tak.

The second, a 2.1 struck at 12:28 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 at 17.577 N 98.177 E – close to the previous one in Sop Khong, Omkoi District.

The third, a 1.5 struck at 5:28 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 at 18.194,98.831- Pa Phlu, Ban Hong District in Lamphun not far off Highway 106.

The fourth and final earthquake, a 1.7 struck a 9:31 p.m. last night, Aug. 25 at 19.514 N 99.159 E in Tambon San Sai, Phrao District near Highway 1346.

The earthquakes in Omkoi took place on the Mae Hong Son fault line while the quakes in Lamphun and Phrao occurred on the Mae Tha fault line.

The quakes capped off a busy week for earthquakes in the north with a 2.1 in Tha Sop Sao in Mae Tha Aug. 22 and two earthquakes recorded in Mae Suai, Chiang Rai Aug. 20 and 21.
