Singaporean man arrested for running online gambling outlet in Chiang Rai

A Singaporean man was arrested by police yesterday, March 12 in Chiang Rai for running an online gambling outlet.

The raid then subsequent arrest occurred in Moo 5 Wiang Phang Kham, Mae Sai at around 2 p.m.

Upon entering the home, police found around a dozen computers on the ground floor that were being used for gambling along with a number of locals gambling on them.

Upstairs they found Mr. Wan Joan Kia, 28, the Singaporean who was running the operation along with two Myanmar nationals, Mr. Jaiyut Lin-ong, 19 and Mr. Cho Theng, 25 who were employed to assist the operation.

The Myanmar nationals, who claimed they were only employed to cook for those visiting the operation, were charged with working without permission.

Mr. Kia was charged with allowing online gambling without permission and a breach of Section 38 of the Immigration Act for not informing authorities of that he had aliens staying at his house, that is, he didn’t lodge TM30 forms for the two Myanmar nationals.
