Six injured by explosion while making ‘fireballs’ in Mae Hong Son

Six men have been injured by an explosion that occurred as they were making fireballs in Mae Hong Son yesterday, June 5.

The explosion occurred in Moo 7 Pang Mu, Mueang Mae Hong Son at around 8 p.mn.

According to reports, the injured men were making fireballs by hammering gunpowder into the balls themselves. At some point, one of the fireballs has exploded.

It’s believed that the explosion may have been caused by highly sensitive “fire clay” combined with excessive compression.

The fireballs themselves are a form of rocket with the men making the fireballs ahead of the annual Poi Cha Ti Festival, a Tai Yai festival that is described as a “worship of the sand pagoda.”

Of the six injured, three were said to be seriously injured. The men were transported to Mae Hong Son Hospital.
