Sole survivor of army aircraft crash in Mae Hong Son dies in hospital

The sole survivor of the Royal Thai Army patrol aircraft that crashed in Mae Hong Son July 6 has died in hospital.

Sgt-Major 1st Class Chatchanan Kheunkaew was initially taken to Srisangwan Hospital in Mae Hong Son with burns to 60 percent of body before later being transfered to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital for treatment where he subsequently passed away yesterday evening, July 17.

Three other people died in the crashed on impact – Lieutenant Nareupol Pookthong, Lieutenant Wiroj Taengkratok and Lieutenant Khemarat Doungkaew.

The body of Sgt-Major Kheunkaew has been transported to his home town of Mae Kha, Chiang Kham District, Phayao where there will be three days of mourning at the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary from this evening through to July 20, with a funeral to be held July 21.
