Three bodies recovered in rescue mission at Mae Hong Son refugee camp

Three bodies have been recovered as a rescue mission at the Mae Hong Son refugee continues after a mudslide hit the village on Sunday.

The mudslide, brought on by heavy rain, hit the refugee camp, that houses 10,000 displaced people from Myanmar, mostly ethnic Karen, on the Yuman River in Ban Mae La Oon, Sob Moei district, Sept. 15.

A 2-year-old girl was killed in the initial mudslide with 12 people injured. 250 emergency services workers, volunteers and Royal Thai Army soldiers were deployed to the site to search for those missing including rescue and recovery efforts.

Four people remain missing with authorities intending to expand the search area to include up to 20 kilometers downstream along the Salween River although given its position on the border permission is being sought from Myanmar authorities.
