Two men arrested for stealing copper wire across Chiang Mai

Two men have been arrested in a joint operation between Chiang Mai Provincial District 5 Police, Mae Rim Police and Mae Taeng Police for stealing copper telephone wire.

The men, named as Mr. Chaturat, 29 and Mr. Damrongrit, 27 were arrested after police studied CCTV footage and traced a vehicle they were using during the thefts to a location in Moo 7 San Maha Phon, Mae Taeng.

Both are accused of stealing copper cable across Chiang Mai including in San Pa Tong, Mae Rim and Mueang districts before on selling it to a second-hand metals dealer.

When arrested, the two were found in possession of 29.3 kilograms of copper wire, tools used to steal the wire as well as the truck caught on CCTV camera used in the thefts.

The men have been remanded in custody pending a court hearing on multiple theft charges.
