Villagers taken for 4M baht in alleged Mae Taeng land scam

Villagers in Mae Taeng have lodged a police complaint after purchasing land but never receiving it from the seller.

The 14 rai (5.5 acres) of land in Baan Huay Chompoo, Tambon Mae Taeng was offered for sale in June with 34 villagers buying land parcels for varying amounts for a total of around 4 million baht.

Four months later the land seller, named only as Mr. Daeng has neither transferred the titles of the land nor offered the villagers a refund of their money.

Thai language media also suggests that the same man may have been involved in other scams with Chiang Mai Province including in Chang Klan and Fang.

Police are said to be investigating.
