A man wanted for stealing shoes at Wat Phra That Doi Suthep has been arrested after police tracked him down using CCTV footage.
Mr. Peerapat Kevichai, 23 from Suphanburi, was caught on camera Aug. 20 at Chiang Mai’s most famous Buddhist temple sneakily putting on a pair of sneakers left outside the Wat by a visiting tourist.
Using CCTV, police were able to trace his movements after stealing the shoes, including the motorcycle he was riding, finally tracing him to a restaurant on Chang Klan Road, Chang Klan where he had been working a bartender for approximately a week.
Mr. Kevichai admitted to the theft saying that he had visited the Wat to make merit but was wearing the “wrong shoes” and apparently needed to replace them. He remains in custody pending a court hearing with police noting that he already has an extensive rap sheet of previous burglary charges.
