Wat raided for illegal logging in Phrao District

Wat Doi Mae Pang in Mae Pang, Phrao District has been raided by forestry officials after locals complained about illegal logging.

The raid found an 8-inch circular saw and various processed and unprocessed trees that had been cut from a nearby protected forest area.

Mr. Supanan Wannaphan, 44, who appears to be a monk at the Wat, was charged under the Forest Act 2484/48 for possessing restricted wood. It’s not entirely clear what the wood was intended for but it may have been planned to be used for the construction or restoration of buildings within the Wat
